Description

The Old Police Station is a building that dates back to 1849 and is now used as offices. It is constructed from local cut and squared stone with random coursing and Ham stone dressings, topped with a hipped Welsh slate roof. The building is two storeys high and features three bays on both the west and south elevations.

The west facade has a central bay that projects and is topped with a pediment. There are doorways in the first and third bays, each with plain surrounds and shallow flat hoods supported by console brackets. The lintel above the doorway in the first bay is inscribed with the words "Police Station," and the door itself is a six-panel type with the upper four panes glazed. The doorway in the third bay is partially blocked, with a window now inserted. Between these two doorways, there is a pair of eight-pane sash windows that have separate architraves but share a continuous stone hood on brackets.

On the first floor, there are twelve-paned architraved sash windows on the sides, and in the center, there is a trio of semi-circular header sashes with architraves, springer stones, and mullions, with the center window featuring a keystone. The eaves cornice is present, and there is a panel inscribed with "erected 1849" in the pediment. The return elevation has plain details, including a central doorway and narrow paired windows on the ground floor. The interior has not been inspected.
