Description
The Hole in the Wall Public House is an inn dating from the middle of the 18th century. It is constructed from cut and squared local stone, which is now colourwashed, and features an undulating plain clay tiled roof. The north end gable has a coping, while the south side has a large brick chimney stack. The building is positioned at an angle to the road and includes an infill wing that extends eastwards.
The east elevation has a modern door and a casement window beneath a timber fascia. There is also a modern doorway with a fanlight above it, and to the right, a 12-pane sash window in a plain opening, although the bottom casement glazing bars have been removed. On the first floor of the east front, there is an 8-pane sash window set within an architrave, followed by two 12-pane sashes in a single architrave, separated by a plain mullion. On the return, there is a single 12-pane sash window in a plain opening. Additionally, there is a timber-framed central dormer on the main roof, which contains a 3-light casement window, likely added in the late 19th century. The interior has not been seen.
