Description
No. 8 High Street is a shop built around 1830, constructed of colourwashed ashlar stone with a roof that is hidden behind a parapet. The building features a three-storey facade that is nearly symmetrical, designed in the Regency style and consisting of three bays. The ground floor has a modern shopfront with six-panel doors on either side; the left door is wider and has a margined fanlight, while the right door has a plain fanlight. Above the shopfront, pilasters frame the three-window bays, with a blank 'bay' on each side. At the first floor, the central bay has a recessed blind panel with a Soanian architrave, flanked by angled bay oriel windows that have plain sashes. A simple band course separates the second floor windows, which are plain sashes set in panelled architraves. The building is topped with a classical cornice and a low parapet, which is slightly raised over the central bay, and it is finished with cast iron railings featuring an intertwined pattern. There is a rendered chimney stack on the right side. The interior has not been seen. This property is included for its group value within the High Street and The Borough.
