Description
Nos 1A and 1B on High Street are a late 18th-century town house that has been converted into two shops. The building is constructed from Ham stone ashlar and features a Welsh slate roof, with a gable coping on the west side and brick chimney stacks at each end. It stands two and a half storeys tall and has three bays. The ground floor has modern shop fronts, with stonework including plinths on the sides. On the first floor, there are three windows with eight-pane sashes set in simple raised surrounds, and an eaves string course that matches that of the adjoining Mermaid Hotel. There are also two small dormer windows, which are slate clad and topped with segmental lead coverings.
The interior has not been inspected. This building is partly integrated with the Mermaid Hotel, which contributes to its listing. Notably, there is a Cyclists' Touring Union metal badge on the right-hand side, along with an old wrought iron bracket above it that now supports a 20th-century sign.
