Description
No. 3 and 5 Hendford is a commercial building dating from around 1860, now part of a department store. It is constructed of brick and stone, which is currently colourwashed, and features a roof that is not visible from the street. The building has three storeys and an attic, designed in a simplified Lombardic style, and is arranged in three bays, with the two right-hand bays having gabled roofs. The ground floor has modern plate glass windows, fascias, and projecting canopies. Above, the right-hand bays feature double semi-circular arched windows, while the left-hand bay has single windows at the first and second floor levels. Each gable has a blank circular opening at the top. There are stone ornamental bands at the springing levels of the window arches and storey string courses, with the upper string course forming a quasi cornice adorned with console and dentil ornament. The interior has been altered.
