Description
This building complex, located on Central Road in Port Sunlight, consists of 26 flats and was constructed in 1906 by architects Bradshaw and Gass. The structure features red brick on a blue brick base, with yellow terracotta dressings and slate roofs.
The building is two storeys high and has eight bays, with a two-bay canted corner and eight bays facing Primrose Hill. The third and sixth bays project under coped gables with pilaster strips, while the central bays break forward under a cat-slide roof. There is a flush sill band, and the ground floor is adorned with four-light mullioned windows that have decorative key stones and drip moulds. The first floor includes a central hipped dormer with three-light windows flanking a stack with a gabled base. The gabled bays feature Diocletian windows, and the second and seventh bays have three-light flat-topped half-dormers. The end bays are topped with parapets over two-light mullioned windows, and all first-floor windows have small-paned casements.
Entrances to the central bays are marked by four-centred arches leading to canted recesses, with plank doors that include small-paned lights. The end canted porches enhance the entrance design. The corner bays have jettied gabled first floors with timber-framing. The facade facing Primrose Hill is similar to the main facade. The rear of the building provides access to Lancaster Close, featuring a 20th-century ground floor, while the first floor has sash windows without glazing bars.
