Description

This is a terrace of eight houses located on Lower Road in Port Sunlight, built in 1906 by J. Lomax Simpson. The construction combines plaster on a brick base with tile hanging and a tile roof. The terrace is two storeys high and comprises eight bays. The first bay is recessed, the second bay projects forward by one bay, and bays three to seven have a jettied first floor, supported by braced posts. Bays three to seven are tile-hung on the first floor, while the other bays feature timber bands. The windows are leaded casements, mostly of four lights. The end bay (bay eight) has a projecting half-hipped gable and a six-light rectangular bay window with a four-light central bow, extending to the first floor. The second bay has a half-hipped dormer, while gablets are present over bays three, four, six, and seven. Bay five features a flat-topped half-dormer. The entrances have small-paned windows, and the inner returns to the second and eighth bays are sheltered by hipped canopies. There are three cross-axial chimney stacks and two smaller return stacks. The rear elevation is similar, with gabled first-floor sections and small-paned casements.
