Description

The Roman Catholic Church of St Bartholomew, built in 1840, is a very imposing structure located on Warrington Road in Rainhill. The west end features six massive fluted Ionic columns supporting a frieze and pediment, accessed by steps leading to a large door beneath a portico. Inside, the church has tall, massive Corinthian columns that create the aisles, and a round apse topped with a half-dome. The nave is covered by a coffered barrel vault ceiling.
