Description

The gate piers beside Ormskirk Lodge are a set of two gate piers and two terminal piers, along with linking walls, likely built in the mid-19th century. The piers are made of dressed monolithic stone and are square in shape, standing approximately 2 meters high. Each pier features plinths, chamfered corners, a sunk panel on each face, plain cornices, and flat tops. The linking walls, constructed from random rubble, are about 6 meters long, with the wall on the south side of the gateway canted outwards and slightly lower than the piers, topped with rounded coping stones. The terminal pier at the north end is positioned against the front left corner of Ormskirk Lodge, creating a cohesive group with the lodge itself. This set is included for its group value.
