Description
Cottage Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the mid to late 19th century, located on Virgin's Lane in Little Crosby. It features roughcast render, likely over brick, and has a half-hipped graduated slate roof, showcasing a cottage ornee style. The building has an irregular double-depth plan with a central entrance and a short wing to the left. It stands two low storeys high and has two windows.
The central part of the house includes a full-height gabled porch with a blank arch and decorative cusped and pierced barge-boarding. There is a smaller secondary porch with a semi-pyramidal slated roof. To the right, the main range has a large square casement window with glazing bars and a flat cornice supported by brackets. Above this window is a half-dormer featuring sashed glazing and cusped barge-boarding. On the left side, the gable of the wing has a canted bay at ground floor level with French windows and glazing bars similar to the window on the right. The first floor has a 4-pane sash window with a flat cornice on brackets, and the wing has a half-hipped roof with barge-boarding that matches the porch. The farmhouse has a chimney located behind the ridge of the main range and a side-wall chimney on the wing. There is also a small set-back side wing attached to the left side of the building. The interior has not been inspected.
