Description
The cart shed, now used as a garage and store, is located to the west of Crosby Hall Educational Trust. It was likely built in the early to mid 19th century and is constructed from sandstone rubble with a graduated slate roof featuring red ridge tiles. The building has a long rectangular shape oriented on a north-south axis and is a single storey with an open front. It consists of four wide bays supported by three sturdy cylindrical piers made of sandstone rubble, each topped with thin square caps. The fourth bay has been modified with an inserted wooden front wall that includes a small two-light casement window and a roof ventilator. Attached screen walls at either end connect the cart shed to former coach houses that have been converted into cottages. The interior has not been inspected. This structure is part of a group that includes a barn and attached stable ranges, which together form a farm courtyard to the east.
