GV II

Villa, now childrens' home. c1870; altered and enlarged. Red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and hipped slate roof. Italianate style. Irregular plan. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys over cellar; 3 unequal bays. Chamfered stone plinth, slate canopy over ground floor on slender curved wooden brackets, first-floor sill band and prominent bracketed eaves. All openings are round-headed, mostly with brick-pilastered surrounds which have stone imposts and vermiculated keystones. The centre has a wide doorway (up steps) with painted stone surround, panelled and glazed double doors with margin panes and a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. First floor has one 1/1 sash. The left bay is canted to full height, and has 3 1/1 sashes on both floors; the right-hand bay has a rectangular bay window at ground floor with 3 1/1 sashes; 3 similar sashes above. INTERIOR: not inspected. Forms a group with No.41 to the left (which is the same design in reflected reversal), and with No.37 (qv) and No.45 (qv).
