Description

No. 28 Cambridge Road is a detached house built in 1907 by John Hughes, showcasing an Art Nouveau style. The exterior features painted roughcast render on brick and a red tiled roof with swept oversailing eaves. The house has an asymmetrical double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with an attic.

The front elevation has three windows, with the right side slightly projecting and gabled. The gable is off-set to the right and is topped with a prominent moulded cornice. The entrance is located in the slightly set-back left portion, featuring a square-headed doorway that is sheltered by a wide segmental canopy on brackets, with run-out ends that overlap the gabled section. There is a small three-light casement window at the first floor, positioned to the left under the oversailing eaves, and a flat-roofed three-light dormer situated halfway up the roof slope.

On the main range, there is a canted bay window on the left that extends up to the cornice, with a four-light casement on each floor. Additionally, a circular window and a wide single-storey flat-roofed canted bay window are present at the ground floor, with a window of three rectangular lights above these at the first floor. A slender string course runs over the first-floor windows and continues around the building, while a low segmental-arched five-light attic window is set into the gable. A chimney rises from the junction of the roof slopes. The interior has not been inspected.
