Description

Melton Grange is a villa, likely dating from around 1890, and now used as a residential home for the elderly. It has been slightly altered since its original construction. The building is constructed of glazed red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with sandstone dressings, some red terracotta, and a steeply-pitched red tiled roof. It is an eclectic design incorporating Queen-Anne Revival elements, based on a double-depth, double-fronted plan.

The exterior is of two storeys with a basement and attic, featuring a five-window front. The design is nearly symmetrical, with a semicircular turret to the first bay and a cylindrical corner turret to the right, linked by a balustraded terrace and a pentice roof at ground floor level. A flight of steps leads to a centrally located 2-centred arched stone doorway with chamfered jambs, a moulded head, and carved spandrels, including blank shields. Coupled sash windows flank the doorway. The first floor features octagonal windows within the turrets, with steep octagonal roofs that sweep over the eaves. In the centre of the first floor are three canted oriel windows. All windows have wooden mullions and transoms, and original patterned leaded glazing. The roof includes a pair of chimney stacks linked by a 2-centred arch and an iron bar with scrolled wrought-iron decoration, flanked by two dormers with applied half-timbering, moulded cornices, and pargeted gables with terracotta finials. A taller chimney is located to the left.

The interior of the building has not been inspected. Melton Grange forms a group with the Church of Emmanuel.
