Description

This is a villa dating to around 1870, and subsequently altered. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and a hipped slate roof. The architectural style is eclectic, incorporating some Gothic features. The building has an irregular double-pile plan.

The exterior is three storeys high, with a basement, and originally had a three-window front. The first bay features a large bow with a conical roof, and the third bay projects forward and is gabled. The construction includes a chamfered stone plinth, a sill band on the first floor, and wooden brackets supporting the eaves. A shallow rectangular porch is centrally located, topped by a brattished parapet. The doorway has a two-centred arch flanked by colonnettes, panelled double doors, and a quatrefoil in the tympanum. The doorhead is moulded with foliage. A sash window with a two-centred arched head is positioned above the doorway on the first floor.

The right-hand bay has windows with 3, 2, and one light on successive floors, with colonnette mullions and arched heads. The ground floor windows have segmental arches, while those above have two-centred arches. The bow to the left, five-sided at ground floor and semicircular above, contains five 1/1 sash windows on each floor. Those on the upper floors have stone colonnette mullions. The left return of the building features a two-storey, five-sided bay window.

The interior was not inspected during the listing process.

The villa forms a group with numbers 37, 39, and 41 Park Crescent, the first of which is in a mirrored design.
