Description
Rose House is a villa built around 1825 to 1850, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of red brick with stone sills and features a hipped slate roof. There are rendered stacks on the right return and at the rear, both with oversailing details and pots. The villa has timber bay windows.
The building has a double-depth plan with a central hall and a similar but smaller range at the rear right. The facade is symmetrical and consists of two storeys. On the first floor, there are three windows with an 8/8 configuration in plain reveals, complete with sills and flat gauged brick arches. The ground floor windows are later flat-roofed bays with three lights, each having a single light on the returns, fluted corner posts, and mullions, along with a frieze and cornice. The central light features a 2/1 sash, while the others are 1/1 sashes. A flight of steps leads to a replacement six-panel door, which has a fluted door surround, panelled reveals, and a bottom panel that is triple-flush-beaded. The upper panels are raised and fielded with inset radiused corners, all matching an inscribed design. The door is topped by a radial pattern fanlight with segmental margin glazing, and there is an Ionic-style porch with fluted columns.
The interior has not been inspected. Historical records indicate that the First Edition 1:500 scale Ordnance Survey Map for Worcester shows the porch but not the bays, suggesting that the bays were added after 1886.
