Description
Astral Lodge is a villa, dating to approximately 1838-1850, and now divided into two dwellings. It is constructed of pinkish-brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with ashlar dressings and a cast-iron verandah. The villa is two storeys high with an attic, and has three windows on the first floor. It incorporates quoins. The central entrance is reached by seven roll-edged stone steps leading to a boarded front door set between pilaster strips and surrounded by margin-light glazing bars over a glazed overlight. On the ground floor are two two-over-two sash windows with margin-lights. The first floor has one-over-one sashes with margin-lights set in plain reveals and stone sills, each beneath a flat, rusticated arch with a central keystone. A frieze and a dentil cornice run along the top of the building. Tall end and rear stacks are present, with that to the left incorporating a cornice. A central roof dormer is also visible. To the right return are windows similar to those on the front, incorporating blind boxes. The interior remains uninspected. Astral Lodge forms an architectural group with the building at number 15.
