Description
No. 16 Cases Street is a mid-19th century shop designed in a restrained Italianate style. The building features stucco and has three bays facing Ranelagh Street and five bays on Cases Street, with a broader curved corner bay. It stands four storeys tall, with the first and second floors highlighted by a giant pilaster order and topped with an entablature that includes a bracketed frieze and antefixae. Above the top storey is a plain cornice. The first-floor sash windows on both Ranelagh Street and Cases Street are adorned with architraves and pediments supported by brackets, while the second-floor windows have architraves. The corner bay's first floor has a later plate glass window that spans its entire width, and the second floor features three windows separated by short pilasters. The ground floor has a modern shop front.
