Description

Chaucer County Junior School is an early 20th-century building constructed of red brick with a hipped tile roof. It stands two storeys high and features a modillioned eaves cornice. The façade has 14 window ranges, with four at each end that project slightly forward. The windows are sashes with glazing bars set in moulded terracotta surrounds. The ground floor windows have uniquely elongated triple keystones that connect them to the aprons of the first-floor windows. On the first floor, the sixth window from each end is round-arched and extends above the eaves into a segment-headed gable, which is broken in the center to allow a finial on the keystone to protrude through the modillion cornice. At the north end, the building steps back for two bays, where there are two square windows per bay instead of the ground floor windows. The other elevations are simpler versions of the main front.
