Description

This is an early 18th-century building on North Street. It is two storeys and has an attic, and its frontage is slightly lower than the adjacent building, projecting forward from it. The roof is red tiled, with three flat-roofed dormers set into it. A coved cornice runs around the top of the building. The building is constructed of red brick, with the central portion projecting slightly. A brick stringcourse runs above the ground floor. The windows are sash windows with flush boxes set within flat arches, and retain their original glazing bars. Below are two large, modern windows, each of three lights divided by slender columns and flanked by slender pilasters supporting a narrow entablature. A large, projecting bay window on the first floor stands over the doorway, featuring ogee-shaped windows of a slightly later date. The doorway itself is framed by fluted Ionic columns supporting an entablature with a pulvinated frieze. The door is within panelled reveals and is an unusual four-panel design with a round-headed top incorporating a semi-circular fanlight effect. The building is part of a group with numbers 35 to 49 on North Street.
