Description
54, 55, and 56 North Street are 18th-century buildings, with Nos 55 and 56 possibly being older. They are two storeys tall with an attic and feature tiled roofs, with No 54 having a higher front and ridge line. Each building has one window, but Nos 55 and 56 also have one blocked opening each on the first floor. Nos 54 and 55 are made of painted brick, while No 56 is cemented. The buildings have small brick dentilled eaves cornices and sash windows set in flat arches with flush boxes; the glazing bars are intact in Nos 54 and 55. Nos 55 and 56 have small 19th-century plate-glass shop fronts that angle towards the doorways, featuring glazed doors with two fielded panels at the base and small rectangular fanlights. No 54 has a late 19th-century shop front. These buildings, along with Nos 50 to 63 (consecutive) and The Ship Hotel, as well as No 5 Guildhall Street, form a group.
