Description

The Conservative Club, originally a parsonage, dates back to 1822 and has been altered over time. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone and features a stone slate roof. The building has a square double-depth plan and is designed in a classical style, consisting of two storeys above a basement with three symmetrical windows on the front.

Notable architectural details include a chamfered plinth and a moulded gutter cornice. The central entrance is a round-headed doorway framed by an open-pedimented Tuscan doorcase, which has engaged columns and fluted entablatures, leading to a panelled door with a blocked fanlight. The ground floor has 12-pane unhorned sashed windows, while the upper floor features 12-pane top-hung casements, all with raised sills and wedge lintels. Gable chimneys are present on the roof.

On the left return wall, there are two basement windows and three 12-pane sashed windows on each main floor, topped by a pedimental gable that contains a large datestone inscribed with: "THIS PARSONAGE HOUSE/ WAS REBUILT AD 1822/ REVD INO BIRD AB CURATE/ THOS STOFFORD/ DANL BRIDEN/ WARDENS." The right return wall includes an added latrine turret. The rear of the building features a basement doorway with a moulded architrave, flanked by 12-pane sashes, along with various other sashed windows, mostly 12-paned. The interior has not been inspected.
