Description
The former Old Dog Inn, located on Alma Hill in Up Holland, is likely from the later 18th century and has undergone alterations since its construction. It is a public house built on a rectangular plan, comprising a double-depth main range and a crosswing that is flush to the front and rear. The building is two storeys high and has a 2:1 window arrangement.
The front facade is painted scored stucco, with coursed rubble to the left-hand gable, random rubble to the right-hand return and rear, and a slate roof. The main range features a plain doorway between the first and second bays. It has low, oblong three-light casement windows on each floor to the left and similarly shaped windows to the right; the upper window is a sliding sash and the lower one has altered glazing. The crosswing has a larger, round-headed doorway to the left, with a raised moulded surround, double doors, and a plain fanlight. It also features a four-pane sashed window on each floor, the upper windows being square with raised sills and wedge lintels. A gable chimney is present on the left. A small 20th-century extension is located on the right-hand side. The rear of the building features a variety of altered windows.
