Description

Alma Hill Farmhouse and Alma Hill Cottage is a mid-18th century farmhouse with a workshop wing at the rear, which has been altered and recently restored. The building is constructed from coursed squared sandstone with quoins and features a composition tile roof and brick chimneys. It has a rectangular double-depth, double-fronted plan with the former workshop attached to the right-hand side. The structure stands two storeys high with a cellar and attic, displaying three symmetrical windows. The central doorway has a restored fluted pilastered surround, a panelled door, and a three-pane overlight. The windows are 12-pane top-hung casements that imitate sashes, all with raised sills; the ground floor windows have lintels with raised keystones. There are two ridge chimneys.

Inside, the stairwell features timber-framed partition walls, a dogleg staircase with an open string, scrolled brackets, slender turned balusters, and a ramped moulded handrail. The ground floor has three fielded-panel doors with large HL hinges. At the rear, Alma Hill Cottage is a single-depth, two-unit gabled wing with two low storeys, where the upper floor is taller than the lower. It now includes a 20th-century flat-roofed brick kitchen built in the angle, with one enlarged window to the left and two windows above, all featuring 20th-century small-paned glazing. The interior of the cottage includes two chamfered beams.
