Description
27 Church Street is a shop with a dwelling above, now used as a shop and offices. It dates from the early 18th century and has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of hand-made brick that has been painted white, with a slate roof. It has a double-depth plan with a courtyard entry on the right side.
The structure is three storeys high and features three windows, with two courses of brick bands at the first and second floors. The ground floor has a 20th-century shop front, and to the right of this is a basket-arched wagon entry that includes a small cast-iron plate in the top left corner inscribed with "COURT No 5." Inside the covered way, there are stop-chamfered ceiling beams. The first floor has three large four-pane sash windows, while the second floor has two smaller sash windows, all with raised sills and exposed boxes. A large axial chimney stack is located on the ridge, and there are various added back extensions. The interior has been altered.
