Description

Brown's Fisheries is a shop with a dwelling above, dating from the late 17th century, though it has earlier origins and later alterations. The building is constructed of rendered brick and features a pantile roof. It stands two storeys high and has two bays. The early 20th-century shop front includes a central double-leaf glazed door flanked by plate-glass windows, all set within a pilastered surround that has dosserets and a plain frieze. The first floor has reduced fixed windows, and there is a very tall coped parapet that contains blocked second-floor windows. The roof is steeply pitched. Inside, there is vestigial timber-framing with some posts visible, along with a closed-string staircase that features onion-on-vase balusters.
