Description
This is a gravestone of Richard Sherdley, dated 1687, located 7 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St. Andrew in Leyland. The gravestone is laid horizontally on a low stone base and features lettering in relief across 14 lines of continuous capitals. The inscription reads:
"HERE:LYETH.THE/BODY.OF.RICHARD/ SHERDLEY.OF.FAR/RINGTON.YEA=/ MAN.WHO.DE=/PARTED.THIS: =/ LIFE.JANUARY:-/THE.NINTH.IN.THE./ FORTY.SEVENTH/YEAR.OF.HIS.AGE./ AND.WAS.INTER-/RED; JANUARY.=/ THE: 12th.ANNO.=/DOMINI: 1687:"
