Description
This is a row of five cottages located at 5 to 11 Daisy Hill, built around 1800, with some alterations made in the early to mid-19th century. The cottages are constructed from watershot coursed sandstone and feature a stone slate roof with four irregularly spaced chimneys along the ridge and one at the right gable. The layout consists of a double pile for No. 5, which has two bays, while the other cottages are single bay plans. All cottages are two storeys tall and have a consistent height.
There are vertical joints between Nos. 5 and 5A, and between Nos. 7 and 9. No. 5 is double-fronted, featuring a doorway with a plain surround and two sashed windows on each floor. Nos. 5A and 7 have doorways on the left side with plain surrounds, and each has one window on each floor, also sashed, except for a fixed window at the ground floor of No. 5A. Nos. 9 and 11 were originally built together, with No. 9 having large segmental-headed wagon arches in the front and rear walls, which have since been replaced with doorways at the outer ends, also with plain surrounds. Both cottages have sashed windows on both floors, with the ground floor windows featuring thin glazing bars that create three panes in each leaf.
At the rear, the windows of Nos. 5A to 11 have been altered to top-hung casements. The interiors of the cottages are said to be slightly different, with No. 11 featuring a stone staircase in the rear room.
