Description

A row of four cottages, built around 1800, with alterations in the 20th century. The cottages are constructed from watershot coursed squared sandstone rubble, now strap-pointed, with a slate roof. There are four corniced ridge chimney stacks, and a rebuilt chimney at the left-hand gable. Each cottage has a rectangular plan and is single-fronted. They are three storeys high, with one bay per cottage. No.7, on the right-hand side, has quoins at the right-hand corner and at the joint with No.8 to its left. Each cottage has a doorway to the right, and one window on each floor, the topmost window being shallow. The window surrounds have raised punched details. Most windows are modern casements, except in No.10, which has a 12-pane sash window at ground and first floor levels, and a 6-pane fixed window above. Moulded stone gutter brackets are also present. A skylight window is visible in the roof of No.10. Masonry at the left end of No.10 suggests the row originally extended further at that end. At the rear, windows have raised sills and large lintels.
