Description

This is a lodge, dating from 1880, situated on Wyresdale Road in Lancaster. Built of squared coursed sandstone with a slate roof, the lodge features a distinctive semi-octagonal front. The main part of the building has two bays facing forward, with an additional bay on each side projecting as canted sections. The ground-floor windows are sash windows without glazing bars, and are round-headed with a moulded impost band. The first-floor windows also have sash windows without glazing bars, and feature rebated surrounds and a sill band. A single-storey wing, set back to the right, has a hipped roof and incorporates a timber porch with arcaded round-headed lights. A chimney is visible on the ridge of the main house.

Williamson Park, of which the lodge forms part, was developed on the site of former quarries and moorland. Large-scale development began in the 1870s, funded by James Williamson (Senior) and designed by Mr Maclean of Castle Donnington. James Williamson (Junior) later gifted the park to Lancaster Corporation in 1881.
