Description
19 and 21 Rochdale Road are a pair of cottages built around 1800, with one having been altered for use as a shop. As of 1984, both cottages were empty. They are constructed from watershot coursed sandstone blocks and feature a stone slate roof with a chimney stack located on the ridge at the junction. The cottages have a double depth plan, with each cottage consisting of one bay.
The front of the cottages has two low storeys, while the rear, which is at a lower level and identified by a nameplate on the wall reading "INDUSTRIAL PLACE," has three storeys. Number 19 features a 19th-century double shop front with a housing for an awning, along with two sashed windows above. Number 21 has a plain doorway to the right, one ground floor window (now boarded), and two sashed windows above.
At the rear, each cottage has a door leading to the lower level. Number 21 also includes a vertically aligned upper door to the ground floor, with the remains of steps leading to it (the deck is missing). Number 19 has two stepped triple-light windows on the top floor (now boarded), while Number 21 has one window at the lower level, another at the ground floor (both boarded), and two on the top floor.
