Description

No. 48 Church Street is a house built in 1680, with some alterations made over time. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and has a slate roof. The building has two storeys with attics. The south gable wall, which faces the street, features a central doorway with long and short jambs, and a lintel that displays '1680' in raised letters, flanked by two motifs of four hearts each. The ground-floor windows are modern and have plain reveals. On the first floor, there is a three-light mullioned window with an outer chamfer, an inner hollow chamfer, and a hood mould. Above this, there is a one-light chamfered attic window. The west wall has a single-storey garage added recently on the ground floor. On the first floor, there is a modern window with plain reveals towards the north, and to the south, there is a two-light window similar to the one on the first floor of the gable wall. The north gable features a chimney cap with weathered offsets and tabling. To the east, there are modern additions. Inside, the ground-floor ceiling beams are still visible, and the single roof truss is made of hardwood, featuring a collar and a tie beam.
