Description

The South (Front) Lodge at Browsholme Hall, built in 1806 and incorporating earlier fragments, is a two-storey structure made of sandstone rubble with a stone slate roof. It features two bays on the south side. The left bay has two-light windows with architraves, square channelled mullions, and moulded hoods, which may be reused elements. The right bay, likely a later 19th-century addition, includes two-light chamfered mullioned windows with hoods. A chimney situated between the bays has tapering round caps for its two flues. The gables are topped with copings and ball finials.

On the west gable, there is a doorway with a moulded surround and a reset shaped lintel inscribed with 'TP 1982'. Above the doorway are the Parker arms, which were taken from Waddington Hall. Below the gable, two corbels with carved 'Celtic' heads support a central figure of a saint from Whalley Abbey.

To the west of the lodge are two gateways. The smaller gateway on the right has a plain stone surround, a semi-circular head, and a moulded cornice, topped with a coat of arms featuring strapwork decoration. The wider gateway on the left includes an arch taken from Ingleton Hall, with moulded jambs, imposts, and a moulded segmental arch with a hood. The keystone displays a curved coat of arms, flanked by additional coats of arms on either side of the arch. This gateway is topped with a coping that has three ball finials. Both gateways are fitted with wrought iron gates.
