Description
The northwest gateway and lodge to Kiplin Hall, dating from the late 18th century, features gatepiers, a gate, and a lodge constructed from ashlar and coursed rubblestone, topped with stone slate roofs. The wrought-iron gates are part of a carriage gateway, which is flanked by walls that include pedestrian gates. The main piers are rusticated and sit on plinths, adorned with entablatures that feature paterae, cornices, and stepped caps. The lower side walls have end piers and flat-arched gateways. The scalloped gates are designed with dog-bars, a midrail, spiked bars, and a curved X-motif beneath the midrail, with the side gates being similar in style.
The lodge itself has a two-storey central bay with one-storey side bays. The central bay is highlighted by a tripartite window with glazing bars, and an impost band that extends as a cornice across the outer bays. A segmental relieving arch is present above the window, which is a six-pane sash with a cornice and pediment above. The lodge features a ridge stack, while the slightly recessed side bays have round-headed doorways with board doors, voussoirs, end pilasters, and parapets topped with stone coping.
