Description
The gatepiers, gates, and railings to the east of Kiplin Hall were constructed around 1880 by W E Nesfield. They are made of ashlar and red brick, featuring wrought-iron gates. The main gatepiers are flanked by railings with end piers, and those on the right continue at right angles until they meet a second gateway near the house. The main gatepiers are made of vermiculated, rusticated stone with brick banding on the plinths, adorned with coats of arms, finials, and scrolled pediments that rise into a frieze. They also have cornices. The double gates include side panels, a plain lock rail, and dog bars decorated with scroll and floral motifs along with finials. On either side, a low brick wall with ashlar coping supports railings featuring arrow-headed dog bars and finialled standards. The end piers are rusticated with brick bands, friezes, cornices, and ball finials. The gatepiers near the house are similar in design.
