Description
The East Gateway and Lodge to Kiplin Hall is a Grade II listed structure located on the west side of the B6271 road. The gateway dates from the late 18th century, while the lodge was built around 1870 by W. E. Nesfield. The construction features ashlar and coursed rubblestone with a stone slate roof and wrought-iron gates.
The gateway includes rusticated ashlar gate piers with chamfered plinths, entablatures adorned with paterae, and stepped caps. The carriage gate is scalloped, featuring spear-finialled bars and dog bars, with similar ratings and standards that have leaf motif finials.
The lodge has a T-shaped plan with a rear cross wing and stands two storeys high with three bays. The central gabled bay is highlighted by an ashlar plinth and quoins. On the ground floor, there is a three-light chamfered-mullion window with a hoodmould, while the first floor has a two-light chamfered-mullion window, also with a hoodmould. The gable features a blank chamfered slit window, and the outer bays are blind.
To the left of the central bay, there is a one-storey porch with ashlar dressings and a chamfered window with a hoodmould. The lodge has a central axial stack and a ridge stack with two diagonally-set flues.
