Description
North Lodge and gateway date from around 1900 and originally served Skutterskelfe Hall. The lodge is constructed of tooled ashlar with a green slate roof, while the walls and piers are of ashlar and the gates and railings are wrought iron. It has a T-shaped plan and is irregular in appearance, with two bays facing the road. The front features a panelled door with an overlight, set within a quasi-Ionic doorcase and an extruded porch with an iron balustrade above. Three sash windows with glazing bars sit in rebated reveals on the ground floor of the front facade; the upper storey is blank. A Venetian window, set within an architrave with a keyed segmental hood on console brackets and a projecting cill, is located in the gable end on the left return. Three grouped windows in architraves are positioned below. The gateway is semi-circular and in a Baroque style, consisting of four rusticated piers with a plinth, cornice, and block course. These piers support one double and two single wrought-iron gates, with iron lamp standards on the inner piers. Convex quadrant walls with wrought iron railings—featuring ornamental panels—flank the gateway, leading to two pairs of outer piers, which are similar in design but without gates. The lodge is now in separate ownership and is divided from the Hall by a road.
