Description

No. 6 Downham Road is a 17th-century house constructed from limestone rubble with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. The building has two storeys and features two bays. The windows are mullioned and transomed, with six lights and chamfered detailing on the first floor, and eight lights that are rebated and chamfered on the ground floor. The left-hand ground-floor window appears to be original, while the other windows were originally simply mullioned and have since been enlarged. The doorway, located between the bays, is chamfered and has a Tudor-arched head. The right-hand gable is notable for its large projecting chimney stack, which has offsets, a later cap, and a chamfered fire window in its front wall. Inside, the right-hand room contains a wide chamfered fireplace with a segmental head, while the left-hand room features a chamfered fireplace with a flat head.
