Description

This is a house, likely dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, and subject to later alterations. It is built of rough rubble stone with a roof of stone slates. The house is two storeys high and presents three different eaves heights. The southern section, with a gable facing the road, is the tallest part, while the northern section, a more recent conversion, is lower than the central section. Windows have simple reveals, and are spaced irregularly. The east side features a window on each floor of the southern section. The middle section has a single window on the ground floor, two on the first floor, and a doorway to the right. The south gable has two windows on the ground floor and one on the first floor. The west wall of the middle section includes a doorway with a plain stone surround, and a sash window with glazing bars and a similar surround to the right. Other openings have plain reveals. A projecting chimney stack with offsets stands against the west wall of the southern section, and a second chimney is located on the ridge between the two parts of the house. The southern room contains a large, stop-chamfered spine beam with run-out stops and other chamfered common joists. The fireplace is moulded and resembles a 16th-century design, possibly incorporating re-used materials. The middle section has exposed ceiling joints. On the first floor of this section are two roof trusses with plain king posts rising from tie beams, and a section of wall constructed of wattle and daub in crude square panels; these features are likely from the 18th century.
