Description
This barn, located approximately 25 meters east of Slaters Farmhouse, dates from the 17th century and serves as both a barn and shippon. It is constructed from random rubble sandstone with quoins and handmade brick, topped with a slate roof. The building has a T-plan layout, featuring a lofted shippon positioned at right angles on the north side. The upper sections of the walls are finished in brick and include coupled slit breathers. On the north side, there is a recessed wagon doorway next to the shippon, which also has a doorway at the end of its west side wall, a ground floor window in the gable, and a loading door leading to the loft. Inside, the shippon boasts a roof truss that includes a wavy tie beam and principals, along with curved struts and a windbrace.
