Description
This is a barn with an attached shippon located approximately 25 metres south-west of Barton Town Farmhouse. The barn dates from the 18th century, while the shippon was built in the mid to late 19th century. The structure is made of rubble stone with some brick dressings and cob, featuring scantle slate roofs with clay ridge tiles; the roof is hipped at the left end and gable ended at the right. The shippon is single storey and positioned at right angles to the front right end of the barn, creating an overall L-shape. The barn has a loft at the right end and features double plank doors with a timber lintel, as well as a small plank door to the right with a loft opening above it. The shippon includes a square opening to the left of two plank doors, which are topped with straight-headed brick arches. At the rear of the barn, there is a lean-to with a corrugated iron roof. This building is included for its group value.
