Description
Sprecott Farmhouse is a house with origins in the 17th century, possibly earlier, that was extended in the 19th century and had its roof raised in the 20th century. The building is constructed of whitewashed rendered rubble and features a slate roof with gable ends. It has a rendered stack that backs onto a through-passage in a three-cell plan, with a stack offset at the left gable end that heats the lower end of the house.
At the upper end, a two-storey extension was added in the 19th century, projecting at right angles to the rear and featuring a brick stack at its near gable end. The main façade has two storeys and a four-window range of 20th-century casements, along with a gabled brick porch that includes a half-glazed door. The 19th-century right-angled projection at the rear has a two-light window with eight panes per light above another two-light window and a plank door, both with cambered brick arches.
Inside, there are scroll-stopped beams in the principal room, and the joists remain intact in the dairy and hall, except where they have been replaced by a former staircase in the hall. The stairs have now been inserted in the through-passage. The roof trusses were replaced in the 20th century.
