Description

MOLLAND SS 82 NW 15/62 Barn and shippon approximately - 20 metres to south-west of West Lee Farmhouse GV II Barn and stable. Mid-to late C18 with some late C19 alterations. Cob on high stone rubble plinth. Partly rebuilt in coursed stone rubble with brick dressings. Corrugated-iron roof, stepped down slope and hipped over end of barn. Plan: 4-bay barn with opposed cart entrances in second bay from north. Shippon adjoining to north, probably built in 2 stages (see straight joint to front). Site falls to south. Shippon of 1-storey. Exterior: Barn with cart entrance to right consisting of a pair of large boarded doors flanked by projecting semi-circular piers. Similar semi-circular pier at right- hand end. Boarded loft opening to left with double boarded doors. Shippon to right with pair of boarded doors and 2 window openings, all with wooden lintels. Boarded loft door with wooden lintel in right-hand gable end. Interior: Barn has C20 principal-rafter collar trusses. Shippon with rough-hewn cross beams (ends visible in front wall) and C20 sawn joists.
