Description
This building is a barn and shippon located approximately 20 meters southwest of West Lee Farmhouse. It dates from the mid to late 18th century, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. The structure is made of cob on a high stone rubble plinth and has been partly rebuilt using coursed stone rubble with brick dressings. The roof is covered with corrugated iron, sloping down and hipped over the end of the barn.
The barn features a four-bay design with opposed cart entrances located in the second bay from the north. The shippon is attached to the north and was likely built in two stages, as indicated by a straight joint on the front. The site slopes down to the south, and the shippon is a single storey.
On the exterior, the barn has a cart entrance on the right, which consists of a pair of large boarded doors flanked by projecting semi-circular piers, with a similar pier at the right-hand end. To the left, there is a boarded loft opening with double boarded doors. The shippon to the right has a pair of boarded doors and two window openings, all featuring wooden lintels. There is also a boarded loft door with a wooden lintel in the right-hand gable end.
Inside, the barn contains 20th-century principal-rafter collar trusses, while the shippon has rough-hewn cross beams, with their ends visible in the front wall, and 20th-century sawn joists.
