Description
West Park is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with likely alterations and additions made in the mid to late 19th century. The building is rendered, probably over stone rubble, and features a gable-ended roof made of corrugated asbestos, with a Welsh slate roof covering a lean-to addition. The farmhouse has a square stone lateral stack at the front, topped with a late-19th-century brick stage.
The original 17th-century layout consists of a two-room plan facing south. The larger principal room is on the right and has an external lateral stack at the front, while the smaller unheated room is on the left, which includes a front entrance and internal divisions, including a 17th-century dog-leg stair with its base in the principal room. There is probably a late-19th-century lean-to addition at the front to the left of the stack, along with a wing that wraps around the corner to form a porch. The farmhouse is two storeys tall, with the lean-to addition being single storey.
The exterior features an asymmetrical two-window front. The first floor likely has 19th-century two-light leaded metal casements flanking the central stack, while the ground floor has a three-light fixed wooden window from the 18th century to the right and a fixed leaded light to the left. The lean-to to the left includes a two-light wooden casement and a half-glazed four-panelled door. The central stack at the front has chamfered offsets at the eaves level, weathering, and a cap, along with a small window on the right side at ground level. The rear of the house has not been inspected.
Inside, the right-hand ground floor room features a 17th-century chamfered cross beam with stepped run-out stops and a blocked old fireplace that includes a bread oven. There was a former L-shaped bench in the corner to the left of the fireplace, which has been removed, but the matchboarded back remains. There is also a recess below the hall window. The 17th-century wooden winder stair has a curved wall, and there is an old boarded door at the foot with strap hinges and remnants of a 17th-century pegged frame. The first-floor rooms and roof space have not been inspected.
