Description
Slade Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with possibly earlier origins, that has been extensively altered since the last survey. It features painted roughcast rendered stone rubble and cob, topped with an asbestos slate roof and gable ends. The building has 20th-century brick stacks, including a capped front lateral hall stack. The layout consists of a three-room plan with a wide cross-passage that contains the staircase, and there are continuous single-storey outshuts at the rear, along with a lean-to at the right gable end.
The exterior is two storeys high with a four-window range, all featuring 20th-century two-light casements. There is also a large 20th-century porch. Inside, the farmhouse has been extensively altered since the last survey, but it retains a 16th-century four-centred arched doorway with a chamfered surround and an old plank door between the hall and cross-passage. The hall has a deep hollow chamfered cross-ceiling beam, while the inner room features an axial chamfered ceiling beam that is keyed to support plaster.
