Description

MOLLAND SS 82 NW 15/55 Lyddon's Cottage - II Farmhouse, latterly divided. Mid-C17, remodelled in the late C19. Rendered stone rubble and cob to first floor. Gable ended scantle-slate roof. Stone stacks with C19 brick shafts at gable ends. Plan and development: C17 3-room plan, facing south-east. Unheated central room with passage in front between; end rooms with external end stacks. 2 dog-leg staircases, one in right-hand room, and one in central room with foot in left-hand room, one at least probably dating from when the house was divided. Eaves probably raised at the same time too. 2 storeys. Exterior: Nearly symmetrical 3-window front; C19 3-light wooden casements, those on ground floor with segmental heads. 2 segmental-headed C19 boarded doors between windows to left and right. Raking stone buttresses to left of right-hand door and to right of right-hand window. Interior: Ground-floor end rooms have ovolo-moulded cross beams with scroll stops. Left-hand room with chamfered half beam too. Old boarded door with H-L hinges at foot of stairs in right-hand room. First-floor rooms and roof-space not inspected.
