Description
Little Woods Cottage is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century or early 20th century. The building is rendered over stone or cob and features a gable-ended corrugated asbestos roof, along with late 19th-century brick stacks at the gable ends.
The cottage has a two-room plan facing east, with a staircase that rises straight up from a central entrance lobby. The principal room is located to the right and has an external end stack, while a smaller unheated room is to the left. The eaves have been raised at some point, likely in the late 19th century. At the rear, there is a two-storey outshut, which may have been a late 19th-century alteration of a one-storey outshut. An external stack was added to the left-hand room around the same time.
The exterior features a late 19th-century three-light wooden casement window on the first floor to the right, and two ground-floor late 19th-century three-light wooden casements. There is a boarded door from the 19th century, located off-centre to the left, with two steps leading up to it.
Inside, the right-hand ground-floor room has joists that span from front to back, a window seat, and a possible blocked window in the front wall. The left-hand ground-floor room also features a window seat. The first-floor rooms and roof were not inspected during the survey conducted in August 1987.
