Description

Lewer Farmhouse is a farmhouse from the 17th century, possibly with earlier origins, and has 18th or 19th century additions. It features rendered cob and rubble walls, with a mainly thatched gabled roof and a corrugated iron roof on an attached cottage to the right. There are brick stacks at both the left and right gable ends. The original layout was likely a two-room-and-through-passage plan, with the hall on the right that includes a projecting window bay at the front and a lateral stack at the rear. An early 20th-century staircase was inserted into the passage. At the right end of the hall, a two-room plan cottage was added in the 18th or early 19th century, which is currently unoccupied. There is also a 19th-century outbuilding at the left end of the house, which may have been a stable.

The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical four-window front on the main house, where the right end features a projecting gabled bay. The windows are 20th-century two-light casements, and there is a 20th-century four-panel door to the right of the centre. The cottage at the right end is recessed and has a three-window front with similar casements and a central gabled porch from the late 19th or 20th century, which also has a four-panel door. The outbuilding at the left end projects and contains a door towards its left end and four windows.

The interior does not reveal any early features on the ground floor, though they may be concealed. The first floor and roof space were inaccessible during the survey, but early roof timbers may still be present.
