Description
Ellmead Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with a 19th-century addition. It features rendered cob and rubble walls and a thatched roof, which is gabled on the left side and hipped on the right. There are two rendered brick stacks, one at the left gable end and one axial. The layout may consist of either a two or three-room plan, possibly including a passage. The left-hand and central rooms are heated by end stacks, while the right-hand room is unheated and may be either integral or a 18th-century addition. Stairs were inserted in the 20th century into a possible passage between the central and left-hand rooms. A 19th-century outshut has been added at the rear.
The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with four windows, featuring 20th-century casements of two, three, and four lights. There is a 20th-century lean-to porch to the left of centre with a plank door. Inside, the right-hand room has an open fireplace with a rough wooden lintel, while the left-hand room contains roughly chamfered cross beams, one of which has straight-cut stops. The principal roof timbers are rough and straight, dating from the 19th century.
