Description

Fursdon Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, possibly with earlier origins, and has been altered and extended in the 19th century. It features rendered cob and rubble walls. The roof is thatched on the left-hand side, hipped at the end, while the right-hand side is slated with higher eaves and gabled at the right end. There are two brick stacks, one axial and one at the right gable end, along with a projecting rubble lateral stack at the rear.

Originally, the farmhouse had a three-room and through passage plan, with the lower room on the left heated by the rear lateral stack. The hall stack backs onto the passage. In the 19th century, the house was extended at the higher end with an additional room, and the hall and inner room were refronted, raising the eaves either at this time or in the 20th century when the thatch was removed from this end. Later 19th and 20th-century extensions were added at the rear.

The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical four-window front. The right-hand side has a symmetrical three-window front with 20th-century two and three-light casements, a 20th-century glazed door at the left-hand end, and a part-glazed door at the centre. The left-hand thatched section has an early 20th-century two-light casement on the first floor, a later 20th-century three-light casement below to the left, and a one-light window to the right. There is a 19th-century plank door leading to the passage.

Inside, the hall features a framed ceiling with intersecting moulded beams. The remainder of the interior was not accessible, but an early roof structure may still be present.
